Timber that lasts
We buy kiln-dried hardwoods and season them in our own store before a single cut. Furniture built from rushed, damp wood warps — ours does not.
Home / Our Story
Kanvara began at a single bench in 2010. We still build the way we did then — one commission at a time, by hand.

Who we are
We are a family-run atelier in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur. What started as one joiner taking on the jobs the big factories found too fiddly has grown into a tight team of makers, finishers and installers.
We have never chased volume. Turning out mountains of identical flat-pack was never the point. Instead we take on a handful of projects at a time so that the person who draws your piece is often the person who sands its final edge.
That closeness is our whole advantage. Nothing gets lost in translation between a glossy showroom and a distant factory, because there is no distance — you talk to the people holding the chisels.
What guides us
We buy kiln-dried hardwoods and season them in our own store before a single cut. Furniture built from rushed, damp wood warps — ours does not.
Where a piece takes weight or gets daily use, we cut proper joinery. It is slower and it is the reason our furniture is still standing after decades.
You get one written quote and we hold to it. If we hit a snag, that is our problem to solve, not a line item added to your invoice.

Our materials
Malaysia is hard on furniture — humidity swings, the odd leak, strong afternoon sun. We pick timbers and finishes that shrug all of that off.
Whether it is one shelf or an entire home, we would love to hear what you are planning. First conversations are always free.
